Keep Austin Weird

An underrated travel destination: Good old Austin, Texas. This hub for students, young professionals and families alike is a warm, fun and friendly city (with tons of food) that any traveler will enjoy. Not only is Austin the capital of the Lone Star State, but also it has so much to offer that it is one of the most popular destinations in the United States to visit or move to when starting (or continuing) your career. Austin has a thriving music scene (SXSW), a slew of hipsters and art festivals and some yummy food that embodies southern cuisine.

When first visiting Austin, you must keep in mind that it has a culture and identity of its own. The motto for Austin, “Keep Austin Weird,” is a testament to its diverse people and culture, as well as its quirkiness. If you’re hungry when you first get there, look no further than the barbeque heaven that is Franklin Barbeque. Their meat is slow-cooked to perfection and you definitely will eat enough to feel satisfied. Make sure you get there early (or not at peak dining times) because this place is crowded with locals and tourists alike most days of the week.

The Bullock Texas State History Museum is also a great place to visit in Austin if you know little about Texas’ history. It’s fascinating how Texas began and grew its own culture over the past centuries. The interactive exhibit makes visiting this museum a truly fun and unique experience. Allens Boots are also a great way to learn more about Texas’ culture (specifically in the cowboy-boot region). There are thousands of pairs of leather cowboy boots that make you feel like you’re really in the wild west—and they’re available for purchase as well!

Another place you must visit in Austin is the Barton Springs Pool where, on a nice day, you can take a dip and admire the beautiful landscape that Austin has to offer. It’s a 1,000-foot natural limestone pool that attracts people from all over the world. And if you don’t feel like swimming, you can bask on the grass next to the pool. The Barton Springs Pool is by far the most interesting attraction in Austin. You’re bound to find something amazing in Austin.
