La splendida Costiera Amalfitana

Italy has some really fantastic places to visit. From Rome to Venice to Naples and Florence, there are famous cities all over Italy where tourists spend hard-earned money and time to experience for themselves. Some places in Italy are less talked about, but no less beautiful. The Amalfi Coast is one of those places. Along the coast of Italy, there are a handful of stunning and different cities that are worth exploring on your trip to Italy. Waterfront views, amazing food, fun hikes and historical sites are only some of the things you can experience on the Amalfi coast.

Sorrento is a great place to visit while touring the Amalfi Coast. Walk through the winding roads and look out over the beautiful Gulf of Naples. The people in Sorrento are friendly and the culture is quaint yet fun. It’s somewhat of a historical beach community, with plenty of churches and monasteries to visit, in addition to shopping on the street Via San Cesareo.

While at Sorrento, you are able to take a ferry to one of the Amalfi Coast’s best and most glorious attractions, the island of Capri. To explain how Capri is amazing could take forever. Located off the Tyrrhenian Sea, Capri is a beautiful island that you can hike up to visit Anacapri, stay on the seaport and have some delicious gelato or take a boat ride to visit the famous Blue Grotto (yes, the water inside the cave is a glowing, bright blue). It is highly recommended to take the chairlift from Anacapri to the top of the island, where the views are unbelievable.

Back on the mainland, Positano is another Amalfi city that you shouldn’t miss. Their black-sand beach attracts tourists from all over the world who explore the winding roads. Positano is famous for its limoncello and love for the lemon, so make sure you pick up a lemon-related keepsake while there. The views at Positano are breathtaking, so it’s best not to forget a camera.

Another live-changing experience not too far from the Amalfi Coast is the ruins of Pompeii and the infamous (most dangerous active volcano in the world) Mount Vesuvius. One hour in a car from the Amalfi coast will get you to the site of a horrible volcanic eruption and some amazing history (Read all about that here). You can hike Mount Vesuvius, which is a little difficult considering you’re hiking up a mountain, or admire it from below. And when visiting Pompeii, you can walk through the ruins of a thousand-year-old village and experience what it was like to live in the year 63.
