Visiting Prague is a wonderful place to relax for a weekend and still have beautiful sights all around you. On January 1st of 1993, the Czech Republic became an official country separate from Czechoslovakia. Today, there is still architecture and monuments that are historic to the many changes that the country has gone through over the last century.
- Charles Bridge
The Charles Bridge was built in 1357, as ordered by King Charles IV. While crossing the bridge, there are 16 arches and 30 statues of religious figures. Made entirely of cobblestone, the bridge is a way to travel back in time. Today, the bridge is lined with artists and musicians.
- Prague Castle
Known as the biggest ancient castle in the entire world, the Prague Castle is a cannot miss sight. The Castle is made up of gardens, walkways and areas in which the royalty used to live. Within the castle is St. Vitus Cathedral. St. Vitus Cathedral is a beautiful landmark that is made of Art Nouveau stained-glass windows and a wooden work up of the crucifixion. The cathedral also houses the tomb of St. John of Nepomuk.
- Old Town Square
Old Town Square was built in the 10th century and looks exactly the same. Spots that you cannot miss in Old Town Square include: Rococo Kinsky Palace, the Gothinc Tyn Cathedral and the Baroque St. Nicholas Church. Make sure you also see the Prague astronomical clock. It was built in 1410 and is one of the oldest aspects of the square. While walking around the square, make sure to try a Trdelnik. It\’s an amazing cake pastry made from dough, wrapped on a stick with sugar on top. You can even get Nutella smothered on the inside!
- John Lennon Wall
Since the 1980s, there has been graffiti on the John Lennon Wall–remind us of the peaceful lyrics that the Beatles tried to promote. Throughout the history of the wall, there have been music lyrics, political protests and murals painted. Today, tourists visit the wall in memory of Lennon and the message he tried to promote.
- Boating on the Vltava River
Walking along the Vltava River is an incredible sight no matter what time of day it is. To truly take in all the sights along the river, it\’s recommended to rent a row boat or a pedal-boat to glide along the river.
- Letna Beer Garden
Known to have some of the most beautiful views overlooking the downtown area of Prague, the Letna Beer Garden is a must go to place! Oftentimes, there are weddings that take place on site in order to take full advantage of the views.
